For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. Psalm 48:14
As I write this blog, our nation is waiting for the last presidential debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden. Just today, (Thursday before I post this) there have been several new things in the news and there are allegations and accusations from both sides against their opponent. Polls indicate that most Americans have made up their minds about who they will vote for and we are all waiting to see what the final outcome will be – although most of us don’t expect to know who the actual winner is on the night of the election, and we all wonder how long it might be before we know for sure.
Does it bother you that people are so very biased and that, depending on who you talk to, people just naturally expect that everyone should agree with them? I know I shouldn’t, because it gets me so riled up, but I sometimes read comments under political posts and I am shocked at the insults that are hurled at one another – people who don’t even know each other!
Of course, I have my own opinion and hope as to who I want to win the office of the presidency for the next four years. I have carefully listened and weighed out all the positions of each candidate and I have made up my mind as to who I feel will be the best for the future of our country. Actually, more than voting for the person, I am voting for their platform and their record.
You who follow my blogs are familiar with my sister, Cindy Powell, and with her music. She is a solid, thoughtful Christian and I loved what she shared this past week on Facebook. I couldn’t say it better, so with her permission, I want to share it here:
You know what I know about Wednesday morning, November 4th? I will wake up and God will still be God. He will still be good. He will still rule this universe. I will still be his child. He will still care for me. He will still love me. He will still be my strength through everything that I face. I will still be more than a conqueror because He is still greater than he that is in this world...even the president! He will still save and change lives. He still knows the score and will have the final word NO MATTER what anyone else believes, says or does. Whether there is peace or turmoil all around me He will still give me the peace that passes all understanding! HE will still be the one who hears and answers prayers. He will still be the God of revival and revive lives.
Do I have a preference or way I want things to go? Do I have human fears? Do I wonder? Do I plead? Sure! But what ultimately matters is - God. He was, is and always will be. So, it is HIS leadership I will follow. It is HIS laws I will obey. It is HIS hand I will hold tight to. It is HIS hope that will sustain me to the end of my life.
So, on the morning of November 4th, or whenever this crazy election is decided, I will still believe. I will still have joy and peace. Because HE IS!
"My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but fully lean on Jesus name. On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand!”
We get so heated and anxious about all this political unrest, but let us not lose perspective on what is ultimately the most important thing – no matter what, regardless of who wins and how things turn out – God will still be God; still ruler of all that is and all that will be.
The psalmist wrote in Psalm 48:14: For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
Let us keep our hope on Christ, who is our solid rock. All other ground is sinking sand.
Peace, Grace and Love!
